    The Department hosts monthly colloquia featuring renowned scholars speaking on a variety of philosophical topics.

  • Studying Philosophy at UGA

    The study of Philosophy enhances analytical, critical and communicative skills that are applicable to any subject requiring advanced thought and comprehension of complex issues.

  • Institute for Artificial Intelligence

    The Department of Philosophy participates in this interdisciplinary program in which Computer Science intersects with Philosophy, Psychology, Linguistics, Engineering and other fields.

  • Set of journals

    Ethics & the Environment journal

    An interdisciplinary forum for theoretical and practical articles and book reviews in the broad area of environmental ethics, Ethics & the Environment is edited by Philosophy Department head, Victoria Davion.

  • Sea oats blow about in the breeze

    Environmental Ethics Certificate

    The Department of Philosopy  participates in this interdisciplinary program within the College of Environment & Design providing a forum for discussion of social and scientific responsibilities toward our environment.

John Rist (University of Toronto/Catholic University of America)

"Can Augustine's City of God Help Us Deconstruct Multiculturalism?"

This paper argues that there are applications of Augustine's views about comparing cultures which ceteris paribus are still of much interest. It will not be an example of cultural archaeology but will relate to contemporary problems, though inevitably with
a perspective that is more "European" than North American.
