I was graduated from Brown University and earned my
PhD at the University of Iowa, where I did my dissertation,
"Science and Metaphysics: Harre's Philosophy of Science,"
with Dr Laird Addis. After leaving my first teaching
position at Kent State University, I moved into the
business world of computer programming and managing
applied technology. I returned to academia at UGA in
1994. I have published articles and book reviews in
Publications of the Society for Literature and Science,
Philosophy of Science, Teaching Philosophy, The Review
of Metaphysics, and The Southern Humanities Review.
I'm a member of the American Philosophical Association;
The Southern Society for Philosophy and Psychology;
The Georgia Philosophical Society, of which I am a past
president; and I am a fellow of the Artificial Center
at UGA.
My current interests are in metaphysics, early
modern philosophy, and cognitive science. My non-academic
interests include competitive swimming and attending
classical music concerts and opera performances. I
have three children and 3 grandchildren.
