Philosophy major and student ambassador Lauren Scaffidi was celebrated this week in one of Franklin College’s stories highlighting graduating seniors. Lauren has been an exceptional student, not only in terms of her academic achievements, which are remarkable, but also in her contribution to the social life of the department. Moreover, she has served the wider Athens community from a number of different positions. In all these respects, Lauren has been one of the most active members of our undergraduate program in the last few years. Lauren has already published one paper, ‘Glowing Up for Going Out: Going Out as a Performance’, in The Classic Journal and has presented at the annual meetings of the American Society for Aesthetics, the Georgia Philosophical Association, and at UGA CURO conferences. As a philosophy ambassador, Lauren has organized events, met candidates for faculty positions in our department, and worked toward the promotion of philosophy at UGA. Those of us who had the opportunity to work with Lauren in any of these areas are grateful for what she has done for the philosophy program and we all wish her the best with her post-graduation plans!
